Some horses, because of physical or psychological reasons, need to stay with us for a substantial amount of time. As you can imagine this can be a very costly exercise, so sponsors are needed to help with the care of those horses and ponies until they are well enough to be placed in an adoption home.
Which horses can I sponsor?
You may choose a specific horse or sponsor the horses in general. If you sponsor a particular horse and he or she goes to a new home, you may transfer your sponsorship to another horse.
What can I contribute?
You can sponsor your horse monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually, or you can choose your own amount and schedule. No amount is too small.
What do I get as a sponsor?
As well as the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to rehabilitate your horse or horses, you will also receive regular updates and photos and a quarterly newsletter to keep you up to date with the rest of the Rescue horses and our activities. You are more than welcome to come and visit with your sponsored horse/s. You may wish to get together with your friends, such as friends from school or your pony club, and sponsor a horse together.

DOB: approx 1987 Height: 10.2hh
Sandy came to HRA in 2000 when she was rescued with some of her friends from a herd of 20 ponies running wild. When Sandy arrived at HRA she had a very young foal at foot and another still suckling from her. She has probably spent her life before HRA having babies. She is a very pretty little mare, and looks very nice as she is running away down the paddock when you try to catch her! She is very timid, but VERY smart and would need a very experienced home that has the patience to deal with her. Due to this fact she will remain a sponsored horse until that perfect home can be found. Read more..

Breed: Stock Horse X DOB: approx 1988 Height: 15hh Sahara first came to HRA via the RSPCA when they caught her owner severely beating her and three other mares, all with very young foals. Because of this she is very timid and has a hard time fitting in with humans. She is very happy to be out the back with the herd, where she can be the “boss”. There is a bit of a trick to catching her, but once caught she can receive daily care such as grooming, having her feet trimmed etc (as long as you do it all with care!) However she will always be ready to “run” at the slightest thing, and as such will remain a sponsored horse until the perfect home is found for her. Read more...

Breed: TB Colour: Bay DOB: 17.9.94 Height: 16hh Sex: Gelding Chester came to HRA in August 2006 after receiving horrific injuries to both his hind-legs in a fence accident. Upon his arrival he underwent a few months of intensive vet treatment and bandage changes every 3-4 days. He is now bandage free and looks and feels a million dollars! He still has quite a way to go before he is completely healed and ready to go to a home, and as such will remain a sponsored horse until then. Read more...

Breed: Palouse Colour: Roan DOB: approx 1988 Sex: Gelding Dodger came to HRA after his owner died and he could no longer be cared for by the family. He had never left his paddock in 17 years, in which time he had only had a sheep for company. He was very surprised by his new horse friends when he came to HRA. He was originally on the adoption list, but recently we have noticed his eye sight is not the best and he looks like he is developing a few skin cancers. We have decided it might be better for him to be placed on the sponsorship list while we can better determine his health issues. He is a lovely horse, even if he is a bit of a "bulldozer"!

Breed: Shetland Colour: Chestnut DOB: approx 2001 Sex: Gelding Ginger was surrendered to HRA by the Animal Welfare League. He apparantly just appeared in a paddock about a year ago and nobody claimed him. He probably would still be there except he decied to founder. Concerned neighbours contacted the AWL who contacted HRA. He's a nice little guy but a bit wary at the moment. He has had his feet trimmed and we will monitor his progress. He will remain on the sponsorship list until we think he is well enough to find an adoptive home.
UPDATE: GINGER HAS GONE TO A GREAT HOME! - JUNE 2010

Breed: Arab X Colour: Chestunt DOB: approx 1982 Sex: Gelding Alby was surrendered to HRA by his owner after she suffered an injury and could no longer care for him. He was bit light on and not looking the best, so we decided to take him in. He is a friendly fellow. Due to his age and some health issues he has been placed onto the sponsorship list. He will live out his life enjoying his retirement with the rest of the HRA herd.
